Is it cheaper to shift on weekdays or weekends

Weekday vs. Weekend Moving: Which One Actually Saves You Money?

Planning a house move? Among all the chaos of packing boxes and sorting through old belongings, one major question always pops up: Should I move on a weekday or wait for the weekend?

If you’re trying to keep a close eye on your budget, weekdays are almost always the cheaper and smarter choice.

Here is why moving from Monday to Thursday can save you both cash and headaches:

Lower Rates: Moving companies are in high demand on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Because weekdays are slower, many movers offer discounted rates or promotional deals just to fill their schedules.

More Flexibility: Want your pick of time slots? On weekdays, movers have wider availability. If things run a little behind, you aren't rushing against fully booked schedules.

Less Traffic & Faster Trips: Weekends in most cities are jammed with weekend errands, events, and heavy traffic. Navigating a large moving truck through weekday traffic (outside of strict rush hours) can actually be smoother, and apartment elevators are usually much easier to reserve when building management isn't dealing with weekend crowds.

So, when should you choose a weekend?

The only real upside to a weekend move is that you won’t have to take a day off work or pull kids out of school. If your job doesn’t offer paid time off for moving, a Saturday might make more sense—just expect to pay peak pricing.

The Verdict: If you have the flexibility to take a day or two off work, scheduling your move on a Tuesday or Wednesday will likely save you a noticeable chunk of change. Plus, you’ll have the entire weekend ahead to unpack and settle into your brand-new home without feeling completely rushed!
