What to do before movers arrive?

The Countdown Begins: What to Do Before Your Movers Arrive

Booking professional packers and movers is a massive relief, but the work doesn’t stop once you've hired them. When moving day arrives, having everything prepped and ready ensures the crew can work quickly, efficiently, and safely.

To make moving day as smooth as possible, here is your essential pre-arrival checklist:

1. Finish Packing Non-Essentials Don’t leave packing for the morning of the move! Have all your non-essential boxes sealed, taped, and labeled by room the night before. This keeps the loading process moving at a steady pace.

2. Assemble Your "First-Night" Survival Kit Pack a separate suitcase or box with items you’ll need immediately upon arrival—medications, phone chargers, toiletries, a couple of changes of clothes, important documents, and basic snacks. Keep this box in your personal car so it doesn't get buried in the moving truck.

3. Clear Pathways and Secure Parking Movers have heavy lifting gear and dollies. Clear out hallway clutter, tie up loose rugs, and prop doors open. If you live in an apartment complex or a crowded neighborhood, reserve a close parking spot or notify your RWA security so the moving truck has clear, unobstructed access.

4. Keep Pets and Kids Safe Moving day means doors are wide open and large furniture is being carried around. To keep your children and pets safe (and out of the way), arrange for them to stay with a friend or family member for the day.

5. Do a Final Walkthrough Check all cupboards, lofts, balconies, and bathroom shelves one last time.
