2. Secure the Doors There is nothing worse than a fridge door swinging wide open while it's being carried down the stairs. Use heavy-duty, appliance-safe tape or strapping to secure the doors firmly shut. Avoid regular masking tape, which can leave a sticky, frustrating residue behind.

3. Keep It Upright at All Times This is the golden rule of fridge moving: always transport your refrigerator in an upright position. Laying a fridge flat can cause the compressor oil to flow into the cooling tubes, which will permanently damage the appliance. Always use an upright dolly or truck.
